The second day of the CPI (M) central committee meet being held in Thiruvananthapuram, is likely to see the committee taking up issues relating to veteran party leader VS Achuthanandan.

The Polit Bureau has reportedly submitted a report to the central committee that points to grave indiscipline on the part of VS, who now heads the Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC). This includes VS boycotting the party state conference held in Alappuzha last year that had created much furore at the time.

VS’ “dissent” with the state leadership, including his statements on SNC-Lavalin case against Pinarayi Vijayan have also found mention in the report.

According to some reports, however, the issue might be considered on Sunday, the last day of the three-day central committee meet.

Multiple reports indicate that the central committee is not likely to take serious action against the nonagenarian.

The Times of India quotes an unnamed source as saying that serious disciplinary action against VS is likely to be avoided, as it will set off a slew of unwanted debates. This-the source said- is not what the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan wants at this juncture, for it might take attention away from the activities of the government.

On the first day of the committee meet, demonetisation was a major issue that was thoroughly discussed.
