Veteran Congress leader AK Antony said on Friday that the Congress party has more leaders than workers and that this has to change.

The former Defence Minister made these comments when inaugurating the K Karunakaran Memorial Meet at the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram.

“We should work hard to improve the grassroots level strength. Now the situation is similar to that of 1967, when there was a generation shift in the party,” he said.

AK Antony’s comments referred to the recent appointment of young DCC presidents in all districts.

He also hinted at the factional differences in the party and said that all leaders should join together to strengthen the grassroots of the party.

He said that while former Chief Minister K Karunakaran and he had a difference of opinion in some matters, they had come to a common decision many a time. He also asked state leaders to compromise on issues and work on the growth of the party.

“Party offices should work as Jana Seva Kendras,” he said.

"A determined effort is needed to shift the party from present challenges and bad times. Party revamping and strengthening should happen at grassroots level. More people should put their efforts to that, leaders should be united for the aim,” he added.
