Not so long ago, BJP MP Ananth Kumar Hegde was caught on camera while assaulting staff of a private hospital in Sirsi. Now, another incident of a politician assaulting a person has come to light.

HRBR Layout’s Congress Corporator, P Anand, was booked for assaulting a man who was talking to a female friend outside his (politician’s) house on Wednesday night, Deccan Herald reported.

The corporator, who is believed to have been drunk, stepped outside his house at 11 am. He saw the couple talking to each other and clicked pictures on his phone. Anand later confronted the man, Giri Keshav (25), and demanded information on what the couple was doing, the report said.

When Keshav indicated that his connection with the woman was none of Anand’s concern, the corporator allegedly slapped Keshav and soon Anand’s associates joined in. A passerby quickly alerted the police, who arrived at the spot and took both Anand and Keshav to the Banaswadi police station, it says.

Anand claimed that he asked the couple to leave for their own safety in the wake of the reports of molestation in Kammanahalli, which is located close to HRBR Layout. The corporator also alleged that he was acting in self-defence as Keshav tried to attack him, the report states.

On the other hand, Keshav told the police that he was dropping off his friend, who is the corporator’s neighbor. Keshav said that after parking his bike, he was talking to his friend when the corporator intervened in their conversation, the report adds.

Keshav alleged that Anand assaulted him after he saw the corporator clicking pictures and questioned him. He alleged that the corporator’s associates beat him so badly that he bled from the nose and mouth and that the police did not allow him to go to hospital for treatment and relented only when his family arrived. Keshav also accused the police of “favouring” the corporator and not listening to his side of the story, the DC report states.

Anand and his associates were booked for assault.
