In a tragic incident, a six-year-old girl was killed after she fell down from a school bus and got crushed under its rear wheel in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The incident took place in Sahebnagar, when P Anjali, a Class 1 student of Prashanti Vidya Niketan, was sitting near the exit door of the bus.
While the vehicle was on its way to school, the bus driver reportedly applied the brakes near a speedbreaker, due to which Anjali lost her balance and fell out.
The Vanasthalipuram police under the Rachakonda Commissionerate is investigating the case.
"The child was traveling to school when the incident took place. Also, she was standing near door of the bus and the door was open. When the bus driver slowed at a speed breaker and started immediately again, the student slipped and fell out,” a police officer told ANI.
Vanasthalipuram Inspector S Murali Krishna told DC, “The rear tyre of the vehicle went over her head and she died on the spot.”
Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat also took note of the incident, and told mediapersons that strict action would be taken against the school’s management.
Meanwhile, activists also protested against the death of the child, calling it an act of negligence on the school’s part.
Activist Achyuta Rao from the Balala Hakkula Sangham said that this was the third student death in the recent past.
"While elder children were made to sit in the back, younger ones were made to sit near the entrance, which did not even have a proper door. This is sheer apathy on part of school management," Rao was quoted as saying.
In December, two young girls lost their lives in Hyderabad in two days, as a result of rash and negligent driving.
Eight-year-old Bhumika Reddy died when a speeding truck hit the two-wheeler that she was travelling on. The accident happened at the Chilkanagar main road in the city.
In the second incident, a 10-year-old girl died in Hyderabad after she was hit by a speeding college bus. The incident occurred at Pedda Amberpet area under the jurisdiction of the Hayathnagar police station.
