Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata to express his solidarity for the latter’s tussle against the Union government. Following the presentation of the Vote-on-Account budget in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Naidu will flew to Kolkata, where Mamata Banerjee is continuing her sit-in protest against the attempted raid by the CBI on the residence of Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.

Naidu along with several other leaders from different parties which are coming together to 'Save Democracy' have extended their support to Mamata. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief who is up in arms against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, was the first to condemn the happenings in Kolkata on Sunday night.

Naidu earlier termed the developments in Kolkata as glaring examples of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah destroying institutions. He also said that attacking political opponents in different states, just before the Parliament elections, will have disastrous consequences in the country.

"After opposition parties started uniting and started to fight together to save democracy, the Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party is losing all hope. The misuse of institutions by the union government to victimise political opponents in states is reaching dangerous proportions," said Naidu.

Addressing the media in Kolkata Naidu said that BJP wants to block the development of all opposition ruled states be it West Bengal or Delhi or Andhra Pradesh. He said, "BJP wants to block the development of all the opposition ruled states. But together, we will fight. We aren’t standing alone, we are united.”

Responding on the CBI row in Kolkata, he said, “Since madam (Mamata Banerjee) will win all 42 MP seats in the state, and become a deciding factor, they want to stop her.”

“BJP is accusing everyone of corruption except Amit Shah and Narendra Modi,” he added.

Reports suggest that there will soon be a meeting between Mamata Banerjee and leaders of the other 22 political parties.
