In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old student allegedly took her life on Saturday in Hyderabad’s Kukatpally area, reportedly after she was caught speaking on a mobile phone and feared punishment. Phones are banned in the hostel she was staying at.
The victim hails from Karimnagar. She was pursuing CA at CMS CA Academy and staying at a hostel in Kukatpally Housing Board.
According to the New Indian Express, the teenage girl Priya* was caught speaking on the phone in the toilet. Phones are reportedly strictly prohibited both at the hostel and institute. The hostel warden, who caught her, seized the phone and informed the same to the college principal, following which Priya’s parents were summoned.
Scared about the outcome of this, Priya reportedly took her own life.
“Afraid over confronting her parents on the issue, the girl ran into the hostel and hanged herself to the ceiling,” a police official told Telangana Today. Police registered a case of suspicious death and handed over the body to their parents after an autopsy at the state-run Gandhi Hospital.
In another case of suicide, a 19-year-old student, who jumped from the fourth floor of her hostel in Maisammaguda in Hyderabad on Wednesday, and succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
The victim was accused of stealing money from a fellow student. She was studying at Malla Reddy College of Engineering at Maisammaguda.
According to police, she allegedly stole money and water bottles, which was later found in her locker. Sandhya admitted to the mistake and returned the stolen items, but later on Wednesday, at 9.45 pm, she leapt from the building and sustained critical injuries and succumbed while undergoing treatment.
