In a two-day KPCC executive convened to discuss the Kerala assembly poll debacle, VD Satheesan said on Saturday that the party and state leadership are equally responsible for the defeat.

The UDF got only 46 seats, while LDF emerged a clean winner with 91 seats.

VD Satheesan, UDF MLA from Paravur and KPCC Vice-President MM Hassan accused the leadership of its ‘lopsided policies’ and the former accused the current leadership of being corrupt. Satheesan went on to say that the current leadership should give way for the new generation of politicians.

The central leadership was not spared from the wrath of party members either. Reports say that party members tagged the national leadership as ‘good for nothing’ and that it does not have the strength to lead a movement.

Hassan held KPCC President VM Sudheeran responsible for the debacle and urged him to resign from the post. Saying that Sudheeran’s principles were only limited to words, Satheesan said that the UDF’s liquor policy misfired.

The members also alleged serious flaws in pre-election preparations and said that meetings held in Delhi to select the candidates had an effect in the results.

In the draft policy set to be tabled for discussion, better representation of youth and a proposal to remove party members who hold on to a party post for more than 10 years will also be included.
