Voting for the “known devil” is better than voting for an “unknown angel” said Sri Lankan President Mahinde Rajapaksa urging northern Tamils in the island state to vote for him instead of Maithripala Sirisena, his principal opposition leader.

Just a week ahead of presidential elections, Rajapaksa said that he had invested billions in the North and not as much in the South, reported The Hindu.

However, even as campaigns continued, the Tamil National Alliance , Sri Lanka’s main Tamil party pledged its support for Maithripala Sirisena in the upcoming January 8 elections, said the report.
