Bengaluru rural police have arrested two men for allegedly raping a woman in a moving bus on the outskirts of the city.

A 19-year-old hospital help was allegedly raped by a bus driver in a moving bus near Hoskote town, on the outskirts of Bengaluru on November 5.

Bus driver Ravi (26), who is from Shivamogga and the cleaner Manjunath (23), have been arrested by Sulibele police, falling under Bengaluru rural police limits. The bus has been seized by the police for gathering evidence.  A case of rape has been registered on both Ravi and his accomplice Manjunath.

Police said that the driver ordered the cleaner of the bus to drive after which he allegedly raped the girl. The duo reportedly dropped the girl off, following which she went to a government hospital nearby. She narrated the incident to the doctors, who then informed the police station, said the TOI report.

Sulibele inspector Srinivas Reddy told The News Minute that the incident occurred when the woman took a bus from Hattegala where she stays, to the nursing home in Sulibele, where she works as a help.

"She has been working there as a help for 9 months. She takes the private buses that ply in the area regularly. Although she has seen the accused many times in the bus stop, she boarded his bus only twice, once on Wednesday and again on Thursday. The woman in her statement said that she has never spoken to Ravi at all and that she only took the bus Ravi was driving because it came early," Srinivas said.

After the woman was dropped in Sulibele, she went to the nursing home where she works. It was only in the afternoon when she felt dizzy that the woman told the doctors in the nursing home about the incident. The doctors then informed the police, Srinivas said.

However, Ravi in his statement claimed that she knew he loved her and that the woman rejected his proposal to her, Srinivas added.

"He said that they knew each other for a couple of months. He claimed that he made sexual advances and that he seduced her with her consent. Only after further interrogation we will know whether his claims are true," Srinivas said.

"The medical examination confirmed that it was rape, but medical reports are yet to come," the inspector added.
