Bengaluru police arrested a man, who claimed to be a son of a Sandalwood producer, for allegedly blackmailing a teenage girl and extorting lakhs of money.

Twenty-two-year-old Rahul Sampath, the accused was arrested in Mahadevapura on Friday. He allegedly asked for Rs 7 lakh from the victim else he would upload private pictures of the two of them, reported The Times of India.

Police said that Rahul is a college dropout, would befriend rich teenage girls by approaching them on social media sites.

According to the girl, who studies in a college in east Bengaluru, Rahul and the victim became Facebook friends over a year ago.

“Rahul said his father is a big producer of Kannada movies and he too would become an actor one day. He'd often take me out or for long drives. Slowly, he started clicking pictures of us,” the girl told police.

The girl said Rahul would get intimate in spite of her resistance.

“He started demanding money saying he needs to invest in films. When I refused, he threatened me saying he would upload my pictures on social media and defame me. Fearing the consequences, I gave him Rs 7 lakh in installments,” she told police.

Her parents developed doubts when they realised their daughter was spending a lot of money.

“The girl finally opened up to her mother. She and her parents approached us and we arrested Rahul on Friday; he's in judicial custody,” said police

“We found pictures of girls on Rahul's mobile and laptop, which we have deleted,” added the police.
