A 30-year-old businessman Deepak RP, a resident of Sanjeevini Nagar of Vijaynagar in Bengaluru is reportedly missing in Muscat, capital of Middle-East nation Oman for over a month. According to reports, Deepak, who is the sole breadwinner for his family, had gone missing on December 10. He was working as a supplier for Mass International Hypermarket for the last seven years.

He had last visited Bengaluru three months ago to celebrate his sister’s 35th birthday.

His mother, Manjula (50) had approached Bengaluru police on December 17 after his phone remained unreachable/ switched off for a week. Based on this, BK Singh, the Additional Commissioner of Police (West Zone) of Bengaluru City Police, wrote to the Under Secretary of the Government of India of the Ministry of External Affairs. A reply from the Foreign Ministry is awaited on this matter.

Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, Manjula said, “I received a call from Deepak on December 10. He had told me that he was going to another city near Muscat and will be back in two days. However, I didn’t hear from him since then. I soon grew anxious and began calling him frantically, but his mobile phone was switched off.”

Manjula had also personally appealed to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. In her communication, Manjula conveyed that she is a single mother and had a daughter with disability. The MEA in its reply said that they have forwarded a complaint to local authorities.

Meanwhile, Mass International Hypermarket has not responded to Manjula’s queries while police in Muscat are yet to make a breakthrough.

Deepak and his friend Francis had set up another supplying commodity in Oman.

“Francis and his mother visited us and told us that they are also searching for Deepak. Police in Muscat also said the search is on, but there has been no breakthrough,” Manjula told TOI.
