The Bengaluru Police have launched a manhunt for Vishnu Naidu, the son-in-law of the late liquor baron Adikeshavulu, who had escaped from Mallya Hospital on Friday, while he was still in police custody. He has been arrested for causing a road accident in an inebriated condition.

On Sunday, the Jayanagar Police arrested Vishnu’s brother-in-law, Rajesh Naidu, for interfering with the investigation and helping him escape from the hospital.

According to an investigating officer, the CCTV cameras at the hospital show Rajesh Naidu escorting Vishnu from the emergency exit.

“It is learnt that Naidu took Vishnu to his apartment from the hospital and then arranged a car for him to escape. We are interrogating him to find out Vishnu’s exact location,” the officer added.

The police, however, suspect that Vishnu was shipped off to the family’s native Andhra Pradesh. Four teams have been formed to nab Vishnu.

“Vishnu’s mother Dr Teejeshwari is the managing director of Mallya Hospital. We suspect that more people were involved in planning his escape. We have found that Rajeesh had housed Vishnu at his Bengaluru home for a day before shipping him off,” the officer added.

Vishnu was undergoing treatment for minor injuries he had sustained after he rammed his Mercedes SUV into a Maruti Omni on Wednesday night at South End Circle in Jayanagar.

Vishnu’s car had then careened into the footpath, destroying the grill along the footpath. Six people, including two children, who were travelling in the Maruti Omni sustained injuries as the force of the impact toppled the car.

Eyewitnesses had told the police that Vishnu and three others were inside the car at the time and were inebriated when the accident occurred.

The police had found 110 gm of marijuana in the SUV, following which Vishnu was booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The three others in the SUV escaped immediately after the accident.
