A Bengaluru couple and their friend were thrashed early on Thursday morning in HRBR Layout by five people including a girl for 'being out so late in the night'.

The victims alleged that the five youths who thrashed them were inebriated.

Bangalore Mirror quoted 29-year-old Maya (name changed) saying, “My fiancé, a friend and I went to meet the owner of a reputed restaurant in HRBR Layout near Banaswadi to discuss a business project. Since our houses are in the vicinity, we did not take our vehicles. At about 1:40 am, we hired an auto to return home. When we were in the auto, two inebriated boys on a red Honda Activa came by, waylaid the auto and started asking us why we were out at that time. They then started making obscene and provocative remarks at us. When we alighted the auto, the auto driver just drove away instead of trying to help us.”

When her fiancé asked the two accused to let them go home, the miscreants got off their bikes and started physically attacking them.

The woman also told Bangalore Mirror that she was hit by the girl who was part of the gang.

“Within a few minutes, a young girl and two other boys came in a car and joined the two accused in beating us. The girl asked me why I was out late in the night with two men when the city is not safe for women. This young girl was totally drunk and started mercilessly thrashing me while the other boys kept beating my fiancé and his friend. After seeing me bleeding, the accused fled in their vehicles. I was just able to remember the last four digits of the bike and was unable to see the car's number clearly as it was pitch dark. The accused were speaking in Kannada and appeared to be residents of Kalyanagar. I never imagined being beaten by another woman. All of us are much better now. The next day we visited the spot to check if there was any CCTV camera, but unfortunately there was none,”she added.

The trio filed a complaint in Banaswadi police station on Thursday. The police suspect that the accused could be students and residents of the area and are on the lookout for them. Further investigations are ongoing.
