The official teaser for Bala's Naachiyar was launched by Suriya on Wednesday.
The film, starring Jyothika and GV Prakash in lead roles, is highly anticipated and the teaser tells us why.
We see Jyothika in a never before seen avatar, sporting a giant red bindhi in some shots and swearing in Tamil as a police officer in another. Bala's films often feature a grim, sordid reality that's a far cry from the prettiness of mainstream cinema. GV Prakash's make-up and look for the film shows us that Naachiyar will be in Bala's trademark style. GV Prakash's character seems to be a criminal on the run from the police.
From the teaser, it appears that Jyothika will be playing a ruthless cop. One can see the actor torturing people and also cussing in colourful language. Jyothika, who has done two films since her return to cinema, can also be seen doing some action sequences, including a car chase.
The film has music by Ilaiyarajaa and the background score in the teaser sets up the mood for a thriller.
Jyothika has played the villain in Pachchaikili Muthucharam and Chandramukhi. Although the actor was at the top of her career when doing these films, she still took the risk.
Bala's last few films have tanked at the box office and he will be looking to revive his fortunes with Naachiyar. Produced by B Studios and EON Studious, this is Jyothika's first film since her comeback which isn't a home production. The actor has also signed up to perform in Mani Ratnam's next.
