ABVP activists in Bagalkote protested on Saturday against what they termed as police excesses on fellow organisation members in Bengaluru on Friday.

A group of people, including some students in uniform barged into the office of district in-charge minister HY Meti around 11am as part of the protest.

In  Public TV, a Kannada news channel report, one of the activists is seen hitting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's photograph with a slipper. The protesters are heard shouting slogans of “Student power, Nation power”.

Inspector of Bagalkot town, Janachaari, said, "We have booked a case against three activists under various sections including vandalism, rioting, attack on women and intimidating the officials."

The inspector however refused to release the names of the accused until the inquiry is completed.

Police on Friday resorted to 'mild' lathicharge to disperse ABVP activists who had been staging a protest in front of the Amnesty International India office in Bengaluru demanding the arrest of those who allegedly raised anti-India slogans at an Amnesty International India event on August 13.

Several ABVP activists were injured, with one girl student fainting in the commotion before she was rushed to a hospital, police said, adding they detained many activists during the crackdown on the protest.
