A 38-year-old Bengaluru man, who was arrested for assaulting a woman at a petrol pump on January 3, was remanded to judicial custody again by the police on Friday. He and one more person were booked for forgery and cheating.

Shivakumar, a gym trainer, had been arrested by the Basaveshwara Nagar police on January 6 based on the CCTV footage of the petrol pump, after the woman complained. In the video, Shivakumar can be seen manhandling and kicking 34-year-old Manjula, who was on her scooter.

When the matter came up for hearing, a court gave Shivakumar conditional bail on January 7. Shivakumar met investigating officer Manju HA on January 18 along with his surety Suresh Babu, who posed as a government school clerk. However, when questioned by police about who the headmaster of the school was, Suresh could not reply, reported Deccan Herald. Upon this, police scrutinised documents submitted by Suresh and found that he had provided a fake Education Department ID card and pay slips to hoodwink the cops, the report said.

When pressed by the police, he confessed that he mimicked the seal and signature of Gauribandipur Block Education Officer after taking Rs 5,000 from Shivakumar, reported the Hindu. Now, both Shivakumar and Suresh have been booked.

Shivakumar was earlier booked for assault, outraging a woman’s modesty, and criminal intimidation.CCTV footage of the petrol pump showed Shivakumar on his scooter, accompanied by a woman, presumed to be his wife, first hitting the woman’s scooter. When she questioned him about the same, he slapped her. Several bystanders took him aside, but he began to abuse her as he was leaving. When she snapped back at him, he came back and kicked her before riding away. The video also prompted DCP (West) Ravi D Channannavar to react to the incident and assure strict action.
