For the first time in the state, an association of former legislators has been formed in Kerala, that will help ex-MLAs to continue their social life.

Former speaker M Vijayakumar is the chairperson of the new association.

On Monday, many of the ex-legislators irrespective of their political affiliations, assembled at Thiruvananthapuram MLA hostel to form the association.

Senior ex-legislators like Vakkom Purushothaman and Shankaranarayanan to newly elected MLAs AA Azeez and KP Mohanan, participated in the association meeting.

The association said that they will make use of their experience and ability to continue their social service irrespective of the political parties they belonged to, which would be useful for the society.

The association also aims at giving training classes to young legislators by making use of the experience of senior ex-legislators.

“We will also stand by the present legislators and will support them in all their activities. The association will also offer membership to the life partners of the late ex-MLAs”, Vijayakumar told media.

The government has allotted an office for the functioning of this new association at Thiruvananthapuram MLA quarters.
