Sticking to the deadline given by various pro-Hindu outfits to nab those responsible for the murder of activist Prashanth Poojary, Mangaluru city police have got hold of one of the main accused and three other conspirators of the murder on October 18.

According to Bangalore Mirror, Commissioner of Police S Murugan said that they have arrested four main accused, Mohammud Haneef, Mohammud Ilyas, Ibrahmin Liyaqat and Abdul Rasheed and that special teams are working on nabbing the other accused.

The newspaper reported that on October 9, around 7 am, six persons on two motorcycles, who came to the market in Moodabidri, where Prashanth Poojary worked as a flower merchant, attacked him with sharp weapons and fled.

BM reported that Poojary, actively participated in pro-Hindu activities and had got into petty fights over cattle and other communal issues.

The report said that Murugan said they haven’t looked into the links of accused with organisations. He said that the six, who are accused of the murder were also involved in two other assault cases.

The report said that after Prashant’s murder, leaders of Hindu outfits, Jagadish Adhikari, Somanath Kotian and Sharan Pumpwell, were getting threat calls.Murugan said, “With regard to threat calls to leaders, three cases have been registered“.

The newspaper reported that a tender coconut vendor, Vaman Poojary and an eyewitness in the case, committed suicide after Prashant was killed.

BM quoted Murugan saying, “The police have not recorded his statement except the initial enquiry on the day of the offence. We found that he was slightly disturbed and hence we did not pressurise him. No police officer had visited his residence. We have checked on the people who made calls to Vaman. He has not received any international calls. We have also checked with his close relatives who said he was upset over the incident.”
