Police on Monday seized 19 trucks carrying about 100 tonne of chicken manure in Krishna district.

"We have seized 19 trucks for carrying the chicken waste from Hyderabad to West Godavari district without any bill or valid paper, at Garikapadu checkpost," Nandigama Deputy Superintendent of Police, Umamaheswara Rao said.

The drivers of the 19 trucks were also arrested, he said.

The chicken manure, along with some other meat, was being transported for its use as food in fish ponds in Krishna and West Godavari districts, Rao said.

The use of chicken waste for feeding fish is considered "harmful" for humans.

Following some incidents of farmers using chicken manure for feeding the fish, the Fisheries Department had banned its use.

A case has been registered in Chillakallu police station under sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 278 (making atmosphere noxious to health) of IPC, he said.

A probe is underway, Rao added.
