Two men who allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl in Tiruchanur town near Tirupati were arrested by the police on Saturday. The incident occurred on the night of November 24, Deputy Superintendent of Police Murali Krishna told reporters. “On the night of November 24, the minor girl took a lift from a man named Venkatesh to go to Tiruchanur. He stopped a little earlier at Mundlapudi, lying to her that his bike had run of fuel,” the DySP said. He then called the second accused, Rajamohan Nayak, to bring petrol to the isolated location. Once Rajamohan reached the spot, the two men allegedly raped the girl among thorny bushes by the side of the road.
According to the police, Venkatesh and Rajamohan then abandoned her and left on the bike. The girl later called her parents and lodged a complaint along with her mother at the Tiruchanur police station. The two men were nabbed on Saturday afternoon.
Police have said that the girl’s physical health has recovered. A rape case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against the two accused.
Police also said that Rajamohan Nayak is a history-sheeter with a criminal record, as he is one of the accused in a murder case. The case was earlier registered at the Tirupati West police station but was later shifted to Tiruchanur station, as Rajamohan had moved there.
On the same day that this incident is said to have occurred, another minor girl was allegedly raped in Chittoor district. A 25-year-old man reportedly raped a 10-year-old after luring her into a field. While he tried to kill the girl by strangling her, she managed to escape and filed a police complaint with her parents. The accused was nabbed a couple of days later, with videos of the police beating him up as he tried to escape going viral.
