A police constable of the Armed Reserve wing attempted to kill himself in front of the District Collector's vehicle in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district headquarters on Friday.

Kadiri Prakash, the  constable who is working as driver of the Armed Reserve wing arrived at the city's Ambedkar Bhavan, where the Collector is said to have attended an official meeting.

On seeing Prakash’s suicide bid, civil police and traffic officials who were on bandobust tried to intervene and prevent Prakash from taking his own life.

Seeing what was happening, the District Collector Sathyanarayana got down from his vehicle and listened to Prakash, who alleged harassment  by the Reserve Inspector (RI). District Collector Sathyanarayana then directed the concerned police officials to order a probe into his allegations and take necessary action.

Speaking to the media following the incident, Prakash alleged that a Reserve Inspector and another homeguard had committed Rs 60 lakh fraud in the last five months. He claimed that he was targeted for this and was subjected as to questioning.

He alleged, " I have complained about his corruption to District SP but no action was initiated against him. Later out of revenge, he foiled false cases against me and started harassing me mentally. The water connection to my house has been removed since a month. "

The constable also claimed that he is being trageted due to his caste identity.

He further added, “He deliberately cut my increments in the salary to make my life difficult. As I complained to SP about the harassment, the SP asked Two town Inspector to look into the matter but he instead is threatening me to take my complaint back as the issue is internal. As a last option I put my complaint in front of Collector, I want justice."

Speaking to TNM,  DySP Anantapur Veera Raghava said that there is no truth to Prakash’s allegations while stating that there was no probe ordered against anyone based on his complaints.

He added, "Earlier, a cheating case was filed  against him, and he was recently reinstated into service following suspension. He  has every choice to make representation instead of doing this ."

Anantapur Two town police have taken the Armed Reserve constable into custody to further probe the matter.

Earlier in October, an AR Head Constable in Telangana state deputed at Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse killed himself. At that time also reports suggested that officials had allegedly harassed him. However, the officials claimed the victim was an alcoholic.
