Versatile actor Anant Nag is well known for his role in the TV series Malgudi Days, based on noted writer RK Swami’s short stories. Apart from this, he has acted in a number of films in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi and Telugu films. He also has several awards to his credit including the Karnataka state awards for Best Actor for films Minchina Ota (1979- 80), Hosa Neeru (1985 - 86), Avasthe (1987 -88) and Gangavva Gangamayi (1994 - 95).

The good news for all Anant Nag fans is that his Kannada movie March 22 will hit the silver screens across the UAE on October 5, 2016. In this movie, Anant Nag plays a geologist, who goes to a village to find out if groundwater is available. Geetha plays his wife in the movie.  

Speaking about the role, Anant Nag said that director Ramakrishnan gave him a complete understanding of a geologist’s work and he put it in action. It may be mentioned that Ramakrishnan and Anant Nag have worked together in about eight movies and share a good rapport. On working with him again, Anant Nag had said, “We are contemporaries and I have played both positive and negative roles in his films.”

The actor has four Kannada films in his kitty and according to him, all of them belong to a different genre. While one is a comedy, the other is a crime thriller, then a film about a woman techie and a family entertainer. He is currently stationed in the UAE where the shooting of his Kannada film, Hottegaagi Genu Battegaagi is on.

Anant Nag made his debut in Bollywood with Shyam Benegal’s Ankur and since then had been a regular in all of his directorials. On working with the noted filmmaker, he has said, “Realistic acting, concentrated and focused performance that was backed by the clarity of thought and intensity were some of the lessons learnt on Benegal’s sets.”
