Aishwarya Rajesh who is acting with Vikram in Gautham Menon's Dhruva Natchathiram has tweeted a pic of her look from the film. And she does look every bit the typical Gautham Menon heroine.
As one Twitter user pointed out, the look is very close to Trisha's Hemanika in Yennai Arindhal, the cop film which had Ajith playing the male lead.
The bindhi and kajal look paired with Indian clothes is something of a trademark when it comes to Gautham Menon's heroines. Reema Sen who played a Christian woman in the director's debut film Minnale is perhaps the only one who was styled a bit differently. Trisha in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya, who also played a Christian woman, had a smaller bindhi but fit the usual look otherwise.
It was Jyothika, as a teacher in Khaaka Khaaka, who made the "Gautham heroine" look here to stay. Heroines in Tamil cinema seldom dress like women do in real life and Jyothika's classy sarees and bold eye make-up in the film made her stand out from the crowd.
Younger women characters, like Samantha's in Needhane Yen Ponvasantham and Manjima's in Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada may favour the kurta over the saree but retain the essence of the 'Indian' look.
It's also interesting to note that the women who come into the hero's life as a second romance, don't fit this mould - so Jyothika in Vettaiyaadu Vilayadu and Anushka Shetty in Yennai Arindhal are both dressed mostly in Western clothes while Kamalini Mukherjee and Trisha were not.
In Vaaranam Aaiyiram, which had three heroines, Simran who is paired with the older Suriya is dressed like the typical Gautham heroine. Then comes Sameera Reddy, who dresses mostly in Western wear, as the younger Suriya's girlfriend. After she dies, the younger Suriya gets into a relationship with a friend, played by Divya Spandana. And this look goes back to the typical Gautham heroine look.
In Pachaikili Muthucharam, Andrea, who plays Sarathkumar's wife, has the bindhi and kajal look.
Jyothika, who plays the villain in the film, is initially dressed like the Gautham heroine (although she has a "tell-tale" nose-ring) when she seduces Sarathkumar's character. However, when she shows her true colours, she's no longer dressed that way.
It's early days yet, but Aishwarya Rajesh's first look does give us some clues about the character she will be playing!
Dhruva Natchathiram is supposedly a spy thriller and is expected to release in April 2018. Apart from Vikram and Aishwarya Rajesh, the film also stars Pelli Choopulu fame, Ritu Varma.
