The Mersal controversy has far from silenced the Tamil film industry. After BJP leaders demanded that the contentious GST scene be removed, actors, filmmakers and producers rallied behind Vijay and the Mersal team.

Now, a film featuring RJ and actor RJ Balaji has also taken a dig at GST.

A promo of Kee released last week shows RJ Balaji’s character lying on a terrace and saying, “Can I tell you a story Siddharth sir? It’ll actually be just you and me dining at a restaurant. But the bill will be so huge that it will look like two more people joined us for dinner. You know who those extra people are? They are GST. They make one’s stomach burn.”

According to sources close to the film unit, the Kee team decided to go ahead with releasing its promo despite the Mersal controversy.

In an interview to Scroll, RJ Balaji says their decision to go ahead with the promo was an attempt to send out a message.

“This scene in which I speak about GST is one that we dubbed much before the Mersal controversy. But we wanted to release the scene as a promo now because we wanted to send a message. If you think you can stop one film from talking about issues, there will be many others that will speak up. You can’t stop people from speaking their minds or expressing themselves. We wanted to make a statement that we are not scared and we are not going to stop expressing ourselves,” said Balaji.

Kee is a psychological thriller that has been directed by Kalees. The film stars Jiiva and Nikki Galrani as the lead pair with Anaika Soti, Rajendra Prasad, Suhasini, RJ Balaji and Manobala in the star cast.
