With director Arun Vaidyanathan’s upcoming venture “Vismaya”, Arunraja Kamaraj will have made his presence in the only south Indian film industry he hasn’t worked in yet: Sandalwood.

Arunraja, who shot to fame with his rendition of Neruppu Da, told The News Minute that he was writing the lyrics of a song for the bi-lingual film. Titled “Nibunan”, the song will be translated into Kannada and Arunraja will sing the song in both Kannada and the original Tamil. He said the song is likely to be the title track for the film.

“It will be difficult, but not as much as acting (in a language you don’t speak). But music itself is a language” Arunraja says. He has sung songs in Telugu and Malayalam in the past.

His entry into the film industry began about four years ago thanks to his college senior and Kabali’s music composer Santhosh Narayanan who introduced him to lyrics-writing and singing. Since his first songs for the film Pizza, Arunraja has been on fire. Pun intended.

A year after he got a break with music, he broke another barrier by acting in Raja Rani. In three years, he’s acted in as many Tamil films, and is not averse to acting in films in other languages. “If I get a good offer, why not?”

But of the various hats he dons, which is the closest to his heart? Direction, naturally, comes the answer.

Arunraja has been an Assistant Director in the past and is now ready with an as yet untitled script. He is on the lookout for producers, actors and dates.

“I want to be the captain of the ship. The master of the craft. But for that, I have to learn all the crafts – writing, singing, music. I’ll learn all the crafts and be the master.”
