According to a recent survey by Pew Research and as reported by the Huffington Post, 65 per cent of American adults believed in the nativity story which accounts the birth of Christ.
The four part story, which begins with the virgin birth, followed by an angel announcing the birth of baby Jesus, to the magi following a star in order to procure gifts for the baby, ends with baby Jesus being laid in a manger.
In a country which is more than 78 per cent Christian, evangelical Protestants are known to show the highest level of beliefs and 90 per cent of them believe all aspects of the story.
While 73 per cent of the people believe that Jesus was born to a virgin, 81 per cent also believed the manger story. Women also show a generally higher belief than men with 76 per cent of all American Catholics believing the entire story.
