A six-year-old boy on Saturday died during treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad, four days after he was allegedly injured in a fight with another boy at his school, police said.
The deceased boy studied at Promising Scholars School at Tolichowki, said Inspector K Srinivas of Banjara Hills police station.
According to his parents, another boy who is two years older than their child had beaten him up on the school premises on July 12.
"The parents observed swelling on the boy's private parts at night and admitted him to Niloufer Hospital. He underwent a surgery there but passed away this morning," said Srinivas.
The body was handed over to the parents after autopsy.
The police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the older boy and are conducting investigation.
Speaking to The New Indian Express, Dr K Ramesh Reddy, a pediatric surgeon said:
"When injuries occur to a person's private parts, he undergoes vasovagal shock. The injury might be due to any reason, an accident, fight or fall. Depending on the intensity of the injury, vasovagal shock occurs in varying degrees. Sometimes it might be unbearable and the victim may die on the spot. Sometimes he might survive for hours or days and succumb later. Not just in the case of such injuries, even while doing surgeries to lower body parts, anaesthesia should be administered perfectly and utmost care should be taken as they are sensitive.”
This is not the first time that the city has witnessed such an incident.
In May last year, nine youth, including two juveniles, were held and charged with murder in connection with the death of a teenager in a WWE-style fight.
A video that surfaced and later went viral on social media of the deadly fight taken by one of the teenagers, showed the victim getting repeatedly punched in the chest till he collapsed.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
