On October 9, 2015, a four-year-old girl was lured with promise of "sweets" and brutally raped in the national capital by a man known to her family.

The child, who is now undergoing treatment at New Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, will have to go through a series of surgeries and recovery is expected to be long and slow process.

Doctors have reportedly told her parents that she will be unable to bear a child in the future.

The Quint in association with BitGiving has started an online campaign to collect funds for "Choti Nirbhaya" so that she can pursue her education and have a stable future.

The 4-year-old survivor hails from an extremely poor family. "They live in a slum area, in New Delhi’s Keshav Puram. Her father is a daily wage laborer, working as a painter. Her mother works as a domestic help. Their income supports the girl’s grandparents, two physically disabled uncles and her two siblings."

Though the child's treatment at present at the Safdarjang Hospital is being carried out on government expense, her family's income has dropped to zero since her parents need to stay by her side all the time. "The family is also worried about the child's future. They are keen to see her educated, and emerge as a self-sufficient adult," the campaign states.
