With a slew of freebies being offered including free voice calls for subscribers, Reliance Jio was touted to be the next big thing in the telecom space.

However, according to a recent analysis by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, its MySpeed portal shows that the much touted Reliance Jio 4G is in fact the slowest 4G currently in India.

According to a report by Manish Sain in India Today,  with a speed of 11.4Mbps, Airtel has the highest average 4G download speed and Reliance comes second at 7.9Mbps followed by Idea at 7.6Mbps. Jio has a speed of 6.2Mbps after Vodafone at 7.3Mbps.

In terms of upload speed as well, Jio with a speed of 2.37Mbps is behind Idea, Vodafone and Airtel. Idea has the best speed at 4.11Mbps.

A Scoopwhoop report states that that the average data speed is for the entire country and the data speeds at the individual locations might be different depending on the network service provider.

"With reference to statistics published on Trai's analytics website, we have performed an internal analysis of the same. Based on this analysis, we believe that the comparison of Jio speeds with other operators has an inherent bias against Jio data usage," the company's statement said.

The company claimed that since the data speed on the company’s network was being measured after consumers used up the daily fair usage policy (FUP) limit of 4GB data download per user, the speed decreases to 256Kbps and hence the results were not an accurate assessment.

"Historically, we have observed that a disproportionate number of speed tests are performed once the FUP comes into effect. This is because most users don't consider performing the test until they observe a deterioration of speed... This has the effect of dragging the average far below the speeds experienced by Jio customers who are enjoying full 4G LTE speeds," the statement added.
