The shooting of the Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum is currently progressing in Attapadi in Kerala at a brisk pace but was halted for quite some time after one of its lead actors, Biju Menon, sustained burn injuries. The actor reportedly got hurt in his hands and legs and was given immediate medical aid. Sources in the know say that the shooting resumed soon after Biju Menon was treated for his burn injuries.

Ayyappanum Koshiyum has Prithviraj and Biju Menon playing the title roles. We hear that Biju Menon will be playing the character Ayappan Nair, a police man, and Prithviraj will be seen as a retired army havildar Koshy Kurien, who had put in 16 years of service.

Reports are that Ayyappanum Koshiyum will be about the two heroes in loggerheads over a minor legal issue. Wielding the megaphone for this venture is Sachy (Sachy – Sethu). It may be noted here that Sachy, Prithviraj and Biju Menon have earlier teamed up for Anarkali in 2015 and they are coming together again for Ayyappanum Koshiyum. This time around, they are collaborating for a mass action entertainer.

Jakes Bejoy is composing the tunes for this flick with Sudeep Elamon cranking the camera and Ranjan Abraham roped in for editing. The film is bankrolled by Ranjith under his banner Gold Coin Motion.

Biju Menon currently has Thuramukham besides a host of other films needing his attention. Nivin Pauly plays the lead role in this film and Biju Menon has a crucial role to do. The film is being directed by noted cinematographer-director Rajeev Ravi.

Biju Menon’s last film release was 41, a socio political satire directed by Lal Jose. He played a school teacher with strong communist ideologies, who has to undertake a Sabarimala pilgrimage. Nimisha Sajayan played the female lead in the film.

A film based on the life of trans woman actor and model Anjali Ameer will begin shooting next year. Anjali will play herself in the film that is directed by Diney George. The film will be shot extensively in Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Bengaluru, etc. It will highlight the problems of the transgender community.

The director said in an interview with the Times of India, “The title will be out in December. It will be a commercial film. The movie also has the train as a major character. Anjali herself will be playing the stages in which she lived as a boy and later as a girl.”

Touted to be a social satire, the film will be a bilingual made in Tamil and Malayalam. The scriptwriter of the film VA Ajith Kumar said, “Through Anjali's life, we also show the plight of the queer community and the many kinds of struggles they go through in life.”

Reports are that the shooting will commence in May next year.

Anjali Ameer became the first transgender woman to play the female lead in a film. She was roped in by the critically acclaimed director Ram to act in Peranbu, opposite Mammootty, and has been receiving rave reviews for her performance in the film. She played a trans woman called Meera in the film, who comes to the lie of the characters played by Mammootty and his onscreen daughter, played by Sadhana. She was selected through an audition after Mammootty met her on a television show her and suggested her name to director Ram. Peranbu which was a bilingual (Tamil and Malayalam) movie gained wide appreciation at International film festivals even before its release in India.

Anjali was also a part of Bigg Boss Malayalam season 1 in which she entered the house as a wildcard contestant. In an earlier interview to TNM, Anjali had spoken about the Big Boss experience and a misunderstanding it caused.

Directed by GNR Kumaravelan, the first look has been unveiled to mark the actor’s 42 birthday on November 20.
  • Thursday, November 21, 2019 - 15:22

The first look of Arun Vijay’s upcoming cop film directed by GNR Kumaravelan has been unveiled to mark the actor’s 42 birthday on Wednesday. Titled Sinam, the first look was launched by ace director Mani Ratnam.

The film will see the actor donning khaki once again. Incidentally, he had played a cop in Kuttram 23 earlier. However, the star says that playing the cop is different in every film and therefore requires a lot of effort each time.

In an interview with the Times of India, Arun Vijay had said, “In Kuttram 23, I played an ACP, and in Sinam, I play a sub-inspector. There is a lot of difference between these two roles, including the cadre! So, I had to work on body language. I had bulked up for Boxer, but I don’t have to look beefed up for this role. So, I knocked off a few kilos. This cop is fit but does not flaunt his physical strength. I also believe that the characterisation depends on the script, too. Sinam oru yadarthamana padam. It deals with a subject that is need of the hour. There’s a lot of emotion, and also suspense in it."

The shooting began some time ago with the team completing the first schedule successfully. The second schedule is currently on in Chennai. Palak Lalwani plays the female lead in this entertainer with Kaali Venkat roped in for an important role. The technical crew of Sinam will include Shabir composing the tunes and Gopinath cranking the camera. Movie Slides Pvt. Ltd., is producing the film.

Last seen in Magizh Thirumeni’s crime thriller Thadam,  Arun has an interesting line up of films. He has just wrapped up the shooting of Agni Siragugal, which also stars Vijay Antony. He also has a film called Boxer which will see him in an action-packed role. He is also awaiting the release of Karthik Naren's Mafia. Produced by Allirajah Subaskaran under the banner Lyca Productions, the film also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar and Prassana.

Agni Siragugal is a multi-starrer with Arun Vijay, Vijay Anthony, Shalini Pandey and Akshara Haasan in lead roles. The film is being bankrolled by T Siva under his banner Amma Creations.
