Rumours were going around on social media that the official remake of recent Kannada blockbuster Mufti, which marks the first time union of Simbu and Gautham Karthik and directed by debutant Narthan has been dropped. It was said Producer Gnanavel Raja had taken this decision since Simbu failed to turn up for shoots.

Contradicting to the rumours Gnanavel Raja told TNM that the film was indeed being made. "We are planning for the second schedule. The news that the film has been dropped is false."

The film is an official remake of recent Kannada blockbuster Mufti, starring Shivrajkumar, Srimurali, Shanvi Srivastav and Chaya Singh. The film was centered on a police officer, played by Srimurali, who goes head to head with an underworld boss, played by Shivrajkumar. Apparently, Simbu will be seen playing the underworld boss and Gautham Karthik will don khaki for the first time in the role of a police officer.

Simbu who is was on a long vacation had recently returned to Chennai from Thailand is expected to honour long-pending professional commitments. It may be noted one of his projects Maanadu which was on pre-production stage for a long time was dropped recently.

In a statement which was released by the film's producer, Suresh stated that he’s tired of waiting for the project to take off, and has finally decided to shelve the idea of making it with Simbu. He thanked Simbu for initially agreeing to be part of the project which will be directed by Venkat Prabhu. Simbu soon indirectly retaliated by announcing his new film titled Maghaamaanaadu.

Simbu is also making an extended cameo in Hansika Motwani’s 50th film has been titled Maha. Apparently, the actor's portion will appear in the flashback and he plays the role named Shoiab.

Reports confirmed a few days ago that the Malayalam mega star Mammootty will be collaborating with the ace script writers Bobby and Sanjay for his next. Titled One, the film will be a political drama that has Mammootty playing the Chief Minister of Kerala.

While it was confirmed that Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Renji Panicker and Sreenivasan are a part of the star cast, we now hear that Joju George and Murali Gopy have been roped in for important roles as well. The film is being bankrolled by Ichais Productions. One is currently in the pre-production mode and will start rolling soon.

In the meantime, Mammootty’s Mamangam has reached the final stages of post-production. Made on a budget of Rs 50 crores, Mamangam is directed by noted filmmaker M Padma Kumar.

The film is a historical based on a medieval fair for the warriors and it is presumed that Unni Mukundan will be playing a warrior in it as well. The film has four heroines, Prachi Desai, Prachi Tehlan, Malavika Menon and Abhirami V Iyer in the star cast and those playing supporting roles in it would be Neeraj Madhav, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal.

The film has Ganesh Rajavelu aka Jim Ganesh wielding the camera, M Jayachandran scoring the music, Sreekar Prasad in charge of the editing, and Kaecha Khamphakdee choreographing the stunts. It is being bankrolled by Venu Kunnampilly under the banner Kavya Films.

Earlier, Mamangam was shot in different locations such as Kannur, Ernakulam, Ottappalam, Vagamon and Athirapally. Reports are that the final schedule, which was spanned over two months, had nearly 2000 junior artistes participating in the shooting. The film is expected to hit the marquee on November 21.

Hansika, one of the top ranking heroines in the southern film circuit, has denied rumors that she is playing the female lead opposite Saravanan Arul, the chairman of Saravanan Stores, a leading chain of stores in India.

In a statement issued, she has said, “I would like to thank all press-media friends and fans, who I believe are the pillars of my journey as an artist from the very beginning till now. It is with their earnest encouragements and right criticisms; I am able to discover my potentials and be a part of unique movies. This morning, I came across news being published on my next film, which is completely a baseless rumor.”

Incidentally, Hansika is the brand ambassador for Saravana Stores and has appeared in the store’s commercials with Saravanan Arul.

Hansika is currently busy with a number of films including Maha. It is a thriller film written and directed by UR Jameel and produced by Mathi Azhagan under the banner Etcatera Entertainment. Maha is Hansika Motwani’s 50th film and also has Srikanth.

The technical crew of this film includes John Abraham JR for editing and the music by Mohamaad Ghibran. Silambarasan will be seen in an extended cameo in this flick and scenes involving him and Hansika have been shot in London.

She also has the Telugu flick Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL, starring Sundeep Kishan. Wielding the megaphone for this venture is G Nageshwara Rao. Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL is touted to be a comedy entertainer, a genre that the director is adept in.

The film is about a newbie lawyer looking for clients and how he manages to take up cases. Murali Sharma is part of the star cast as well. Sai Kartheek is the music composer for Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL.

Ayyappanum Koshiyum, the upcoming Malayalam film, was announced a few months ago. The film will have Prithviraj and Biju Menon playing the title roles. We hear that Biju Menon will be playing the character Ayappan Nair, a police constable, and Prithviraj will be seen as a retired army havildar Koshy Kurien, who had put in 16 years of service. 

Reports are that Ayyappanum Koshiyum will be about the two heroes at loggerheads over a minor legal issue. Wielding the megaphone for this venture is Sachy (Sachy – Sethu). It may be noted that Sachy, Prithviraj and Biju Menon had teamed up for Anarkali in 2015 and are now getting back together for Ayyappanum Koshiyum. This time around, they are collaborating for a mass action entertainer, which has upped the expectation levels. Jakes Bejoy is composing the tunes for this flick with Sudeep Elamon cranking the camera.

The shooting of Ayyappanum Koshiyum began recently in Attapady in Kerala and will go on there for the next few days.

Prithviraj also has Driving License in his kitty needing attention. It is helmed by Jean Paul Lal alias Lal Jr. Prithviraj is bankrolling the project under his home banner Prithviraj Productions in association with Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames. Incidentally, the script for Driving License is penned by Sachy. Touted to be a thorough commercial entertainer, Driving License is about a superstar crazy about luxury cars. Stills from the sets of the Kannada movie Badava Rascal starring Dhananjay reveals that it is a complete action entertainer. Interestingly, this will be Dhananjay’s first film in an action avatar, something completely different from his usual image.

Shankar Guru is wielding the megaphone for this venture, which is under progress. Badava Rascal is produced jointly by Gujjal Purushottam and the film’s hero Dhananjay. Amrutha Iyengar is playing the female lead in this entertainer, which also has Nagabhushana NS and Masti Manju in supporting roles. Vasuki Vaibhav is composing music for this film.

Besides Badava Rascal, Dhananjay also has a number of films in his kitty, including Pogaru. The Kannada film Pogaru, directed by Nanda Kishore, has Dhruva Sarja in the lead role. Puneeth will be seen as a college student in Yuva Ratna, we hear. Sayyesha plays the female lead with this being her first film in the Kannada film industry. It also has veteran Bollywood actor Boman Irani playing an important role and reports suggest that he will be playing a college principal. Dhananjay will be seen as the main villain in Yuva Ratna with Radhika Sarath Kumar also roped in for a pivotal role. Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt’s visit to the sets of Vishnu Manchu’s upcoming film has triggered rumours that he is playing a role in the film. But there is no official confirmation on this yet. While on his visit, Sanjay Dutt posed for a photo with Vishnu Manchu and Suniel Shetty, who is also a part of the star cast. According to reports, Suniel Shetty is playing a cop in the film, which is being shot simultaneously in Telugu and English.

Hollywood filmmaker Jeffrey Gee Chin is directing the film while it is being bankrolled by Viranica Manchu. Kajal Aggarwal and Ruhani Singh have been roped in to play the female leads. A crossover film, it will be released in Telugu and English simultaneously, we hear.

Interestingly, Sanjay Dutt is making his debut in the Kannada film industry with KGF: Chapter 2. KGF: Chapter 1 and 2 are directed by Prashanth Neel, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues. Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films is the producer. The film has Yash playing the lead role and Srinidhi Shetty plays the lead opposite him.

The technical team of KGF: Chapter 2 comprises music director Ravi Basrur, cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda and art director Shivakumar. While Yash and Srinidhi Shetty play the lead pair, the rest of the star cast includes Achyuth Kumar, Nassar, Anant Nag and Vasishta N Simha.

KGF: Chapter 1, which hit the marquee in December last year, was released in five languages simultaneously – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam. The film went on to become a blockbuster hit and overnight Yash became a star with pan Indian appeal. The film was distributed by some of the most high profile distributors in the film industry.

With KGF turning out to be a massive success in all the languages it was released in, movie buffs are waiting eagerly for the sequel. Like the prequel, KGF: Chapter 1 will be dubbed and released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

I play the bridegroom’s brother.” Revealing that each scene in the film was done in a single shot, he said, “Shambu is highly technical and there are scenes that extend to two and a half minutes which are captured in a single shot.”

Prabhu Deva’s next Tamil film gets an interesting title! It has been titled Oomai Vizhigal, which is the title of the yesteryear hit movie that had Vijayakanth in the lead role. The first look poster of this Prabhu Deva starrer was revealed by Dhanush through his social media handle recently.

Debutant VS has penned the film and will be wielding the megaphone. The technical crew of Oomai Vizhigal includes Vishnu Ramakrishnan for cinematography, AH Kasif for music, K Aaruchamy for art direction and Satish for stunt direction. Mamta Mohandas has been roped in to play the female lead in this flick.

While the groundwork for this film is on, Prabhu Deva is gearing up for the release of the Hindi movie Dabangg 3 which he is directing. Dabangg 3 is an action film produced by Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan under their respective banners of Salman Khan Films and Arbaaz Khan Productions.

The film features Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha as the lead pair with Arbaaz Khan, Mahie Gill, and Sudeep in the star cast. It is scheduled to hit the marquee on December 20 this year.  

Also, Prabhu Deva’s 50th film as actor, titled Pon Manickavel, is under progress. For the first time in his career, Prabhu Deva will be seen playing a police officer in Pon Manickavel. Filmmaker Jude Anthany Joseph announced his film 2403 ft, which is inspired by the real life incidents that happened during the floods that ravaged Kerala last year. The film is bankrolled by Anto Joseph under the banner Anto Joseph Film Company. Jude Anthany has scripted the film in association with John Manthrickal.

Reports are that the film has an impressive star cast with Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Jayasurya, Asif Ali, Indrajith, Manju Warrier and Indrans signing on the dotted line to play important roles. Sources in the know say that the director is in the process of roping in some actors from the Tamil film industry and will be making an official announcement once the signing process is through.

The technical crew of 2403 ft comprises of some of the highly talented names in the Malayalam film industry. Jomon T John is handling the camera for this venture with Mahesh Narayanan in charge of the editing, Shaan Rahman to compose the tunes and Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar for sound designing.

Jude Anthany Joseph made his debut as director with the 2014 release Om Shanthi Oshaana which was a coming-of-age romantic comedy. While Jude Anthany directed it, the story was conceived by Midhun Manuel Thomas who wrote the screenplay in association with the director. His second directorial was Oru Muthassi Gadha.

The teaser of the Puneeth Rajkumar starrer Yuva Ratna was released recently and has gone viral among netizens. The teaser was trending at number one for quite some time.

The 1.40-minute teaser shows the star as a college rugby player. It starts with visuals of a locker room and a stadium lit at night, with a voiceover announcing that it is the final rugby match between two universities. Puneeth is then introduced as the ‘Hooker’ and the captain. What follows are fast-paced shots from a rain-drenched match in front of a cheering crowd, with Puneeth doing a number of stunts before scoring a goal and ending with his team posing with the trophy. The stylishly done teaser has raised the expectation levels for the film.

Yuva Ratna, which comes with the tagline ‘Power of Youth’, is directed by Santosh Ananddram, who had earlier collaborated with Puneeth to deliver the smash hit film Rajakumaraa. Yuva Ratna has Sayyesha playing the female lead and this is her first film in the Kannada film industry. While Yuva Ratna is nearing completion, Puneeth Rajkumar also has James in his kitty. The film will be helmed by director Chethan Kumar and will be bankrolled by Kishore Pathikonda. According to reports, James will be a complete entertainer with all the mass elements included and the groundwork is progressing briskly to ensure that the film goes on the floors soon.
