Online food order delivery startup Zomato will be out in the market again in a month to raise funds. The target is to mop up around $600 million (Rs 4,276 crore, approx.). This has been revealed by the company’s CEO and founder Deepinder Goyal.

Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Goyal covered a few issues concerning the business. Giving out some numbers he said that Zomato is now present in 550 cities and towns in India and 48 million people order food on its app each month. This is the figure for its domestic operations. Zomato has ventured overseas as well and another 25 million customers partake Zomato’s food delivery services. The business was started in a very small way 11 years back, he recalled.

Goyal flagged the issue of handling a large workforce as one of the challenges the company is facing. Over 250,000 people have been hired by Zomato in the past 18 months alone, Goyal claims. As the company has grown in size, the need to maintain consistency across the organization has been felt. The management is all the time on its feet ensuring that the operations run smoothly.

There were questions put to Goyal on the stand Zomato had taken on the religious discrimination issue. This was in reference to a report earlier this year when a customer had raised an objection that the delivery executive assigned to deliver his food was a Muslim and that it was not acceptable to him. Zomato told the customer they don’t discriminate their employees on the basis of their religion and were prepared to let go of the customer and his business for this.

Goyal had issued a statement saying the company is proud of the “Idea of India” and won’t compromise on their basic values under any circumstances.
