If the industry grapevine is anything to go by, Yuvan Shankar Raja might collaborate with Dhanush after a long hiatus for Maari 2. The last time the duo worked together was in 2008 film Yaaradi Nee Mohini, and going by the buzz, they’re set to reunite after nine years. An official confirmation is awaited from the makers’ end and if announced, it’d also mean that the highly anticipated reunion between Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander, who had composed music for the first part, may not happen. It is believed that director Balaji Mohan might make an official announcement regarding the sequel’s music director this week.

Maari 2 was supposed to materialise much earlier but due to Dhanush’s multiple commitments, including his directorial project Power Paandi, the film had to be pushed. In the film, Dhanush played a dhoti-clad, moustache twirling local rowdy and he will return in the same getup for the sequel, which will be bankrolled by Wunderbar Films. Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who has worked in films such as Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha and recently in Dhanush’s maiden Malayalam production Tharanga, has been roped in to play the baddie in the film, which will be made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu.

The principal shooting is expected to start from next month. Dhanush is currently shooting for Vetrimaaran’s Vada Chennai, and going by some leaked stills from the film’s shoot, he’s seen sporting a thick beard for his portion. The film chronicles three decades in the life of a gangster, played by Dhanush, from North Madras. The project, which will be made as a trilogy, marks Dhanush’s third collaboration with Vetrimaaran after Pollathavan and Aadukalam.
