In his first address after victory, YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy took a swipe at the former Chief Minister and TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu saying “God punishes those who err in his own ways”. The YSRCP chief was addressing a legislature party meeting at Amaravati on Saturday after winning 151 of the 175 assembly seats and 23 of the 25 parliamentary seats. The party secured over 50 % total votes polled in the state.

At the meeting on Saturday, he was unanimously voted Leader of the YSRCP Legislature Party. All the newly-elected legislators attended the meeting held at Jagan Reddy's residence at Tadepalli in the state capital region Amaravati. Senior leader Botsa Satyanarayana proposed the name of Jagan Reddy as the leader of the YSRCP Legislature Party and it was seconded by Dharmana Prasad Rao and other top leaders.

“Chandrababu Naidu had bought 23 legislators from our party and it is the same figure of 23 MLAs that TDP has won now and as coincidence would have it, the results were announced on May 23," alleged Jagan who called it ‘poetic justice’. He further alleged that Naidu had engineered defections of 3 YSRCP MPs in 2014 Assembly Elections and is now left with just 3 MPs.

Speaking about his new mandate Jagan said, “The decisive mandate shows the level of confidence people had reposed in us and in six months’ time we should show results and get the feedback of good governance,”

He promised to cleanse the political system to pave way for politics of credibility and accountability and  urged his party workers to be part of that process. “Our aim and style of functioning should compel the entire nation to look towards us as we shape a model state,” added Jagan.

Hours after he was elected as the leader of the Legislature Party, Jagan met Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan in Hyderabad and formally staked claim to form the government. Accompanied by few senior leaders of the party, he submitted to the Governor the resolution passed by the meeting of party legislators electing him as the leader.

Jagan Reddy has already announced that he will take oath as the Chief Minister on May 30 at Vijayawada.
