Prachi Sibal| The News Minute| July 17, 2014|This smartly named website is actually your rain man, except with trains. So, while you spend hours trying to load the IRCTC page on your computer and getting mere availability statistics, Trainman goes a step beyond. The website will not just give you train ticket availability but also chances of confirmation (in percentage) in the case of a waitlist ticket. The homepage lets you select destinations and travel dates and you could get straight to business. Once you hit the ‘find trains’ button, a window appears to show you availability, chances of confirmation and past trends to help you decide. Confirmation chances of 65 per cent and above indicate high chances of ticket confirmation. Colour coding (red, green and yellow) makes it easier. How do they do it? Click on the FAQs section at the top right corner and you will read all about how the Trainman makes his predictions. Trainman claims to have checked as many as 1,00,000 PNRs with a success rate of 80 per cent before taking to prediction. The website is as no-fuss as one can get and easy to navigate even for the tech challenged. Also interesting is the ‘Train facts’ section with a drop box ‘ticket status’ that decodes train ticket terminology and could be of help to infrequent travellers. A ‘train tips’ option under the same section has some valuable information for travelers on how one can increase chances of confirmation while booking a ticket. This is followed by a list of do’s and don’ts to keep in mind when boarding a train. They aren’t as typical as you may imagine, we found a useful tip or two. The website doesn't fret much over visual detail, except the logo, which is that of a wide-eyed smiling train.Log onto trainman.in
