The News Minute | November 12, 2014 | 7.12 pm IST A banner that has come up in a busy commercial area of Mangalore challenges Prime Minister Narendra Modi to work for Hindu-Muslim unity as Gandhi did. The poster reads: “You know who killed Gandhiji. After killing him they use him as a mascot now”. It then goes on to describe Gandhi as a political philosopher, freedom fighter, non-violent protagonist, minority’s friend and so on. It appeared some days ago in the Balmatta area of the city and has been issued by AICC member P V Mohan, “as part of Public Education”. It also has an email id. Speaking to The News Minute, Mohan said that the BJP had “hijacked Gandhi completely”, and that Gandhi was “more than a toilet”.“Gandhi had died for Hindu-Muslim unity, but they don’t talk about that,” Mohan said. He said that there should be a public debate on the issue and that he wanted to “provoke the BJP” into responding. Asked why the district Congress did not take up the issue, and why the banner had appeared under his name as an AICC member, Mohan did not give a clear answer. He said that the Congress needed to ensure that the good work done by the government were brought to the attention of the people. Clearly, all is not well.
