If you felt Xiaomi was already very aggressive in its marketing strategies, wait till you hear what’s more in store from this Chinese major. Having emerged almost on par with Samsung as the largest seller of mobile handsets in the Indian market and set up 3 units to manufacture/assemble mobiles and other devices in India, Xiaomi is now poised to launch a ‘Made in India’ smartphone on November 30.

The most interesting part is nothing is known about this phone, the size, the specifications or features of the new phone to be launched. There are only some teasers being issued on Twitter and this phone is being called “desh ka smartphone”. The market expectations are that it could be priced below Rs 10,000.

Among the hints being given about the new phone is one that says this device could be oriented towards the customers in the rural parts of India. This is due to the fact that Xiaomi’s India MD has undertaken extensive traveling through the interiors of the country to study and understand the lifestyles of the rural folk and the new smartphone is expected to address several aspects of the precise needs these people have, in a smartphone. Now what these features are and how does Xiaomi plan to include them in their device is still a mystery.

There are also parallel moves being made by Xiaomi to expand its presence in the country through its Mi Home stores. On the one hand, it has set an ambitious goal of opening up 200 of these offline stores in India and on the other, it is working on the O2O, online to offline model by linking its mi.com/in to the off-line stores and vice versa.

So, all focus will be on the launch of a new smartphone by Xiaomi in the Redmi series exclusively for the Indian market.
