A worried BBMP tells Bengaluru citizens to protect themselves from dengue

Attention to Public: Protect yourself from Dengue and Chikungunya This is what advertisements placed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) in newspapers, television and radio to create awareness among citizens to take precautionary measures says. Advertisement was published in The Times of India The BBMP does have reasons to worry. Cases of dengue have shot up four-fold with 182 cases being reported since June 1. With the onset of monsoon, there is a sudden spurt in the number of water-borne and vector-borne diseases across the state and this year too, Bengaluru has witnessed a drastic increase in the number of dengue cases. According to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) project coordinator for National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme, Dr. Naveen Kumar, 274 persons have tested positive for dengue this year within BBMP limits. Speaking to The News Minute, Kumar said that the BBMP had charted an action plan to deal with dengue cases and had devised day-to-day activities which included carrying out fumigation across the city. ‚ÄúIn epidemic areas which report high number of dengue fever cases, we carry out fogging,‚ÄĚ he said. He further said that a BBMP medical officer concerning that area would visit the house where such cases were reported to sanitise the place.
