A young woman died of poisoning in a Bengaluru hospital on Sunday. Parents of the woman have filed a complaint of death due to dowry harassment against the woman's husband.

The incident happened in Rajagopalnagar police limits.

Parents of the deceased, identified as Lavanya, allege that her husband Manjunath Gowda murdered her over dowry.

An FIR has been lodged for death due to dowry harassment. Manjunath is currently in police custody.

"We received a message from Gowthami, Lavanya's sister after South City hospital declared her dead," said Sudhir, police inspector.

"During the preliminary investigation, the accused's mother said that she was in the house when Lavanya suddenly started vomiting. Upon seeing a bottle of rat poison on the floor she suspected that Lavanya had consumed it. She rushed her to KIMS hospital. But KIMS asked her to shift Lavanya as they did not have the facilities," he said.

"She told us Lavanya was taken to South City hospital immediately," he added.

The 22-year-old had got married to Manjunath, less than a year ago. "It was a love marriage but it took place with the consent of both the parents," said Sudhir.

The officer said that the investigation is still going on.

"We have to speak to the woman's friends and neighbours," he said.
