A woman delivered her baby on the road after a government hospital in Bidar district denied her treatment.

According to Bangalore Mirror report, the incident happened in Aurad taluk, bordering Maharashtra.

Surekha Dilip who is from a village in the neighbouring state went into labour on Wednesday morning. Her family took her to the Aurad Government Hospital. After her blood pressure was checked, a nurse took her to gynaecologist Dr.Shilpa Shinde. However, the doctor refused to treat Surekha, reported BM.

With no place to go and with her labour pain increasing, they sat at the entrance of the hospital pleading the doctor for help. Shinde allegedly threatened to call the police.

Since the hospital denied the family an ambulance, Surekha reportedly walked some distance until she collapsed on the road, where she delivered the baby girl. Surekha was then rushed back to the same hospital and was later admitted.

The officials from family welfare and health department visited the hospital. Bidar deputy commissioner Anurad Tewari has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Surekha said, “No woman should have to go through what I did. Women in labour need utmost care, but I was treated so badly.”

This is not the first such incident in Karnataka.

Yadgir District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Divakar Malagi less than two weeks ago had then issued a notice to doctors of a private hospital whose alleged negligence made the woman deliver on the road.
