A woman constable from the Andhra Pradesh police attempted to kill herself on Wednesday after alleged harassment by her higher ups.

She consumed pesticide in her quarters, following which she was rushed to a private hospital in a serious condition.

The Hindu reported:

Two-town constable Kranti was working since one and half-year and she was allegedly harassed by Circle Inspector Chaitanya Krishna. On Tuesday, she had an argument with CI. On Wednesday, she consumed pesticide...her condition is stated to be stable.

There is a recent increase in the number of policemen attempting suicide in the two Telugu states, especially Telangana.

In September, a trainee sub-inspector of police committed suicide in Telangana's Nalgonda district by hanging himself.

In August, two sub-inspectors in the state killed themselves in separate incidents.

On August 30, a sub-inspector shot himself with his service revolver just two days after he joined Kerameri Police Station in Adilabad district.

On August 17, another police sub-inspector committed suicide when he turned the service revolver on himself in Medak district.
