It's raining accusations and counter accusations in Kerala's Congress. The United Democratic Front's decision to make former Kerala assembly speaker Late G Karthikeyan’s son K.S. Sabarinathan’s the candidate in Aruvikkara bypolls has led to an open battle between state leadership of Congress party and students wing of the party Kerala Students Union (KSU). KSU state president V.S. Joy had earlier written a letter to Sudheeran raising objections to Sabarinathan's candidacy. The KSU had pointed out that there were many eligible persons for the candidature and Sabarinathan had no experience in politics. The KSU had also demanded that Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President V.M Sudheeran should contest from Aruvikkara, if Karthikeyan's wife Sulekha was not willing to be the candidate. However Sudheeran on Saturday brushed aside KSU's objection. But what has not gone down well with student leaders in the state is Sudheeran's jibe that 'this was a bypoll, not a college union election'. “We took a collective decision by analyzing all sides. Now everyone should work together for the UDF candidate’s victory. It’s not a college union election,” Sudheeran told media. Not the one to keep quiet, KSU president Joy has replied to Sudheeran in a recent Facebook post . “We completely agree with party’s decision. But the statement by Sudheeran that this is not a college union poll, has hurt us.  KSU has been a part of Kerala politics and now he has said that we have voice only in college elections, this cannot be accepted. The present leaders who were all part of KSU and should not cut off your past like lizards cutting off their tails,” he said in the post. Meanwhile many Congress leaders like DV Vinodkrishna, former general secretary of State Youth Congress and Swapna Patronis, AICC Vichar Vibhag secretary have come out against Sabarinathan’s candidature. “Family rule and Amul babies are back. We have suffered a lot of abuses from the police, but we stayed united for the party and public. But the party's decision to sustain a family's rule is harming the dignity of thousands of party workers who are sincere to the ideology," Vinod Krishna. He went on to say, "These leaders once objected to K Karunakaran’s son and daughter entering politics. Now they are quiet. This reduces our respect and love towards them. Youth Congress also should have shown the courage of KSU president. I don’t understand why Sabarinathan wants to enter politics leaving his highly paid position with TATA. If the aim is selfless service, then why did not he do that earlier?”
