The News Minute | August 18, 2014 | 4.13 pm ISTIt's called 'Addicted to Life,' a Facebook campaign by the Kerala government against drugs. The campaign aims to educate Kerala's youth about drug addiction. Actor Mammootty is the brand ambassador of the campaign and many actors, singers and other artistes have given support to the campaign on Facebook. In fact, the Kerala government has an arsenal of star campaigners including Innocent, Jayaram, Jayasurya, Dulquer Salman, Nivin Pauly, Fahad Fazil, Nazriya and Bhavana, Unni Mukundan and others.Mammotty started the campaign by declaring on his FB page that every like to the campaign was a dislike to drugs.Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy launched the campaign on August 6, and already 60,000 users have changed their cover photos to 'Addicted to Life', and over 1.38 lakh visitors of the total 1.75 visitors to the page have “Liked” it.The campaign has been started by the state Excise Department and Beverages Corporation that supplies liquor to bars in Kerala. Though the initial phase seems to be just creating a cover photo on Facebook, Kerala Excise Minister Manaf says there is more to come and the FB campaign is just the beginning. However, there are many who are not convinced with the campaign and are asking why the state Excise department was pitching against drugs, but advertising alcohol. Isn't that addiction of a different kind?
