Why the delay in giving BC status: Kapu leader Mudragada warns CM of intensifying agitation

Questioning AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the delay in granting BC status to the Kapu community, Kapu patriarch Mudragada Padmanabham on Sunday warned that they will take to the streets.

“If the government is not inclined to give us our rights, we will take to the streets and fight for justice,” Mudragada said.

How many years does the government require to fulfil its promise of BC status, the Kapu leader asked Naidu.

Mudragada warned the CM against testing the patience of the Kapu community. In an open letter to the CM, he said that the community will not stay quiet if the government tried to suppress their agitation.

He was quoted in The New Indian Express as saying, “It is high time Kapus realise it is a do-or-die situation for them. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will be defeated in the ensuing Assembly elections, if Naidu tries to cheat the Kapu community. If the government decides to suppress Kapus, the CM should be prepared to face defeat.”

He also accused Naidu of giving away lands acquired from farmers to his supporters, in the name of development.

Mudragada reportedly said that the government should fulfil the demands as Backward Castes, SCs and STs have also extended their support to the cause.

He further said that they do not intend to take away the existing reservations from the communities, but seek additional reservation under BC quota.

Claiming that the government came to power because of the Kapu community’s vote, Mudragada Padmanabham asked what more Naidu was expecting from the Kapu community to fulfil their just demand of inclusion in the BC list.
