Mahabharata, based on the novel Randamoozham penned by acclaimed award winning writer MT Vasudevan Nair, will go on the floors later next year, confirmed its director VA Shrikumar Menon.

He had tweeted: "For all those who are eager to know randamoozham progress. The pre-production work is in full swing and I would be dedicating myself from Jan 19 (sic).”

Fans have been waiting eagerly to know about the progress of the magnum opus and finally, all speculations about its commencement have come to an end with the director speaking on it.

Incidentally, VA Shrikumar Menon and Mohanlal are currently busy with Odiyan, which is a fantasy thriller in which the latter plays the title role. Produced by Anthony Perumbavoor under his banner Aashirvad Cinemas, the film has Manju Warrier playing the female lead with Prakash Raj in a pivotal role.

In Mahabharata, Mohanlal will be playing Bhim and it is touted to be one of the costliest films ever to be made in the history of Indian cinema. Apparently, Mahabharata will be told from Bhim’s point of view in this flick.

It may be noted here that the film will be bankrolled by a Dubai-based businessman BR Shetty and he has earmarked Rs. 1000 crores for this project. According to reports, the film will be shot primarily in English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu with plans to dub it in various other languages so that it reaches a larger audience.

A press release had stated earlier: “This film will have an identity across continents, with their representatives donning the myriad characters in The Mahabharata! A global team led by an internationally renowned casting director will handpick the cast.”
