‘We grew up as brothers’: KTR and Harish Rao shower praise amid rumours of rift

In an attempt to quell rumours that all is not well within the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), caretaker ministers KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao, showered praises on each other on Thursday while addressing a meeting with party workers from Sircilla constituency.

Stating that they grew up like brothers, the son and nephew of TRS chief and caretaker Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said that there were no differences between them.

“Siricilla constituency was earlier famous for suicides by debt-ridden weavers. But after KTR took over, it became famous for weavers earning the highest income in the country with the TRS government giving one crore Bathukamma sari manufacturing orders and placing all cloth orders of the government with them,” Harish Rao was quoted as saying.

KTR also echoed Harish's comments, stating that, “There is only healthy competition between us in developing our respective constituencies.”

“Harish is racing against time to complete the Kaleshwaram irrigation project. Under his stewardship, irrigation projects in the State are racing towards completion. The way Harish works, he is an idol for others to follow,” KTR added.

Both of them also insisted that KCR would continue to be the Chief Minister of the state for another 15 years, thereby trying to address speculation that the duo were fighting to be his successor.

Rumours of a rift have been doing the rounds, ever since an emotional outburst by Harish Rao, amid allegations that the TRS was blacking out his events and attempting to sideline him.

The senior TRS leader was invited to an event at his adopted village of Ibrahimpur, where locals passed a unanimous resolution that they would only vote for Harish Rao in the upcoming election.

Speaking at the event, an emotional Harish Rao said, “I feel like quitting politics now when I am enjoying enormous love and tremendous support. I will continue to serve you irrespective of whether I will be in politics or not.”

This statement had triggered a political row in the state.

Senior leader Konda Surekha from Warangal East constituency, who quit the TRS to join the Congress, also accused KCR of sidelining caretaker Minister T Harish Rao and leaders who are close to the latter.
