The YSRCP on Friday said that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had become ‘paranoid’ citing the state government’s move to withdraw consent for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct investigations in the state.

The YSRCP accused Naidu of pushing the state ‘towards decay’ and said that “the Chief Minister has breached many democratic and constitutional norms while sharing power with the Centre and even after pulling out of the NDA".

Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, YSRCP leaders Buggana Rajendernath Reddy and Ummareddy Venkateswarlu said in a statement, “A cursory look at the developments between the date of renewing the consent, in August, and withdrawing the consent, in November, shows that the major development that took place in between was the attack on Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy who moved the court seeking a judicial or CBI inquiry.”

“Naidu always works for his personal interest and not for people’s interest. Earlier, when there were Income Tax raids, he raised a hue and cry and went to the extent of stating that the Centre has targeted him and his party…he is paranoid and afraid that his dark deals will come out if there is a probe,” they added.

Jagan was attacked by a man identified as Srinivas, a waiter working at a restaurant at the airport, on October 25, when the accused who claimed to be his fan and approached him for a selfie. He was scheduled to leave for Hyderabad and was waiting in the VIP lounge.

“We demand that the GO issued withdrawing consent for CBI to operate in Andhra Pradesh should be withdrawn forthwith as it puts the state in poor light,” the YSRCP leaders said.

Fuelling the bitter war between the TDP and the BJP further, the Chandrababu Naidu led Andhra Pradesh government has withdrawn general consent, which accommodates discharge of duties by members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment, including CBI sleuths, in the state.

In the absence of this consent, the CBI cannot interfere with any case that takes place within the limits of the state. The CBI had been carrying out its operations in the state as per the general consent orders issued in united Andhra Pradesh. The CBI has been getting an extension from the AP government to carry out investigations in various cases from time to time.
