Watch: Singer Shankar Mahadevan praises Bengaluru hotel staff for their singing

The staff from the Conrad Hotel in Bengaluru sang two Hindi songs for Shankar Mahadevan.

Music composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan has delivered many hits in his career like ‘Breathless’. He was last nominated for various south Indian awards for Best Playback singer for the 2016 Telugu hit Janatha Garage. It would clearly take a lot to impress a musician of his stature and experience, but two Bengaluru hotel staffers have managed the feat, and even got featured on Shankar’s social media!

Shankar was staying at the Conrad Hotel in Bengaluru recently when he managed to find some musically talented people – two of the hotel staff working there. Shankar recorded videos of both of them singing and uploaded them on Instagram too.

Introducing his first find, a woman named Doyal, he says, “We have these wonderful friends of ours who are working here but they are super talented!” Doyal then sings a few lines from ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhaage’ from the Bollywood film Zor Laga Ke Haisha, which Shankar clearly appreciates.

He goes on to the second Conrad employee then, a man named Ashwini. “We have Ashwini here, another talent. Look how much talent is there in our country!” Shankar exclaims. Then Ashwini proceeds to sing ‘Mitwaa’, a classic from the 2006 Hindi film Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna for which the music was composed by the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio.

'Mitwaa' was originally sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali, and has some high notes as well, which Ashwini had no trouble hitting. As Ashwini sings, Shankar cannot help but join him towards the end. Ashwini, Shankar and Doyal sing the song together then.

As Ashwini and Doyal finish their small demo for Shankar, the other staffers gathered in the lobby break into an applause.
