To coincide with the superstar’s birthday, the Petta team has released the film’s teaser on December 12. Petta, which is slated for Pongal 2019, stars Rajinikanth in the lead. The rest of its cast includes Simran, Trisha, Vijay Sethupathi, Sasikumar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bobby Simha.

The one minute 30-second teaser clip begins with Rajini walking down a dark alley, his footsteps echoing down the cobbled path while people seem to be fighting with flashlights in their hands in the darkness.

This dark ambiance is quickly replaced by Rajini appearing with a tray of food in his hand while his most iconic title card from Annamalai is played.

The teaser has a very celebratory ring to it from here on, given that it has been released on the star’s birthday. The clip ends with Rajini flipping his sunglasses in his trademark style while looking at himself in the mirror.

The film’s audio launch took place in Chennai on Sunday. The event was attended by the film’s cast and crew members in addition to fans and college students. Petta’s jukebox has 6 songs and 5 themes.

Sharing that Petta is a story that was inspired by, performed by and dedicated to Rajinikanth, Karthik Subbaraj said that his dream of making a film with the superstar looked bleak, especially after the latter announced his political career. “I had narrated the story to him in 2015 but it had to wait since he went on to do Kaala and then later announced his political entry. I kept thinking my life would remain incomplete if I never got the chance to work with him,” he said.

On the day of the audio launch, the makers announced Trisha’s character in the film. Seen dressed in a traditional red and blue silk saree with flowers and glass bangles, the actor plays Saro, possibly Rajinikanth’s wife during his days in the village.

Previously, the makers had revealed Vijay Sethupathi’s and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s characters as Jithu and Singaar Singh respectively.
