With the Karnataka Assembly elections set to be held in six months, the BJP is sharpening its attack on the Congress. This BJP women's wing has turned its ire on KC Venugopal, AICC Karnataka-in-charge and Alappuzha MP.
Led by its Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje, workers of the women wing of the party assembled in central Bengaluru near Anand Rao circle on Monday seeking KC Venugopal's resignation.
Calling KC Venugopal a “rapist” Shobha demanded that Venugopal be immediately sacked by the Congress. The senior Congress leader was accused of rape and sexual assault by Kerala solar scam co-accused Saritha Nair. A judicial commission that had probed the solar scam had found Saritha's allegations of sexual assault against many political leaders including KC Venugopal prima facie true and has asked the government to file FIRs in these cases.
The Alappuzha MP along with many colleagues including former Kerala CM Oommen Chandy will be probed for allegedly sexually assaulting Saritha Nair.
“I request Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to take KC Venugopal back. Sexual asaulter and corrupt Venugopal is not needed in Karnataka. This is our demand,” the MP from Udupi said.

Not leaving at that, Shobha attacked the Congress-led Siddaramaiah government over alleged misgovernance and corruption.
Before getting detained by police, she said, “Siddaramaiah became CM with the promise of giving everyone justice.After four and a half years of his government’s rule, the truth is out and we have realised this was a lie. The good, hardworking officials did not last while corruption has prevailed in Bengaluru. Even in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubli and Belgavi , how many DCs have come in the last 4 and half years? In Udupi and Chikkamagalur, I cannot even count the number of DCs and SPs that have come and gone.”
She alleged even Siddaramaiah and his son, Yathindra were guilty in land acquisition cases but the cases have been swept under the carpet by ”silencing” the Lokayukta and the ACB.
Reiterating the party’s demand seeking resignation of MInister KJ George over the mysterious death of Dy SP Ganapathi Case, she said, "The Supreme Court has told Karnataka police that the investigation is not honest and they should hand over the investigation to the CBI."
This is not the first time that Shobha has led demonstrations against Venugopal.
Shobha had then warned the Congress that Venugopal will be greeted with black flags wherever he goes. And if Venugopal was not withdrawn, she threatened to protest at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi.
She was detained by the police along with other women workers on Tuesday of the party as she tried to lead a march in the city.
